The eLayaway process is now available to the thousands of customers using Mercantec's E-Commerce Express service, enabling them to sell to customers not using the traditional credit card process.
According to the press release, eLayaway is "similar to traditional layaway," in that it allows shoppers to buy a product online, and pay for it in regular automatic installments, with delivery upon full payment. Customers are required to be 18 years old and have an active bank account, as well as to pay a 1.9 percent transaction fee.
The eLayaway website has a video describing how the service works, and a "sample calculator," which allows the user to choose thier payments to fit thier budget.
Amusingly, the website also includes a graphic quoting eLayaway ambassador (and former NFL and MLB star) Deion Sanders, who says that, "eLayaway can help you shop online without incurring more debt? eLayaway is the smarter, debt-free way to pay for the things you buy online."
Mercantec, in the announcement, says it added 6,000 new customers to E-Commerce Express last year. The tool is a free, web-based service that provides users with the means to sell online with less complexity and cost than other storefronts and shopping cart software.
"eLayaway is an innovative service that gives our merchants a competitive edge," said Dan Watkins, founder and CTO of Mercantec, in the press release. "They now can access a new universe of qualified shoppers who are eager to buy things without credit-based payment options."
